YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad today observed International Earth Day and organised various programmes including Scientific Poster Gallery cum Competition, Quiz and Expert Lecture to mark the day. This year, the theme of the day is ‘End Plastic Pollution’.
International Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 marked across the world to show support for environmental protection.
Dr. S.K. Attri, Deputy Director General, Scientist-F, Indian Meteorological Department, New Delhi was the chief guest and keynote speaker of the programme and spoke about various climate change prospective. The programme was presided over by Prof. Sandeep Grover, Dean, Institutions. Prof. Raj Kumar, Chairperson, Department Humanities and Science was also present in the programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Renuka Gupta.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Grover said that environmental protection is a subject, in which requires active participation and combined efforts for the successful implementation of environmental pollution awareness and prevention measures.
During the programme, the students presented Poetry, Mono-acts, Skit and documentary on environment related issues, which were highly appreciated. Meanwhile, in the signature campaign launched to make the people aware about plastic pollution by students of Environmental Science, the students and employees of the University participated with full fervour. The students who bagged positions in the various competitions organised on the occasion were distributed prizes and certificates of appreciation.
Anshika and Kavita bagged first prize in Poster Gallery cum Competition whereas Bhavna Sharma, Barkha Gupta and Kulsum Khan stood second. In Enviro-Quiz contest, Komal Vashishta and Divyang Gupta stood first whereas Suraj Sharma and Rohit Sinha bagged second prize.
